クロツグミさん。

’黒’をつくる色の組み合わせは色々あるが、普段あまり使わないビリジャングリーンとレッド系の組み合わせたにしてみた。レッド系はキナクリドンレッドかスカーレッドレーキ。光の当たる背の部分にはコバルトブルーを重ねる。今回ミニ水彩で、また少し大きめの紙に描こうと思う。

Two Swallows

I love Winsor & Newton's french ultramarine blue. It's warm blue and shines on paper. I usually use Holbein's ultramarine blue deep and light, which are of good quality with reasonable price. Other colors used are cobalt blue, raw sienna, burnt sienna, quinacridone red and perylene maroon.

European Goldfinch

I guess it is my faster, rough painting that is actually the way of painting I like, on a postcard sized Sounders Waterford paper. After all, I like this paper.
I used Raphael's kaerell synthetic brush #8204 for the first time and had a good feeling with it; soft hairs for synthetic but durable so I don't have to care too much about brush being damaged.

ゴシキヒワ。ラフにハガキサイズのウォーターフォード紙に描いてみた。新しいナイロン筆のファファエル#8204の試し描きでもある。柔らかい合成毛の筆を探していて初めてラファエルを使ってみた。１枚描いたところではわりと好感触である。

Barn Owl

メンフクロウ。立派な翼をなかなか描き表せないけれど、描いていて楽しい鳥である。この絵ではローシェンナ、バーントシェンナ、プルシャンブルー、ミネラルバイオレットの4色のみ使った。

I used only four colors for this painting; raw sienna, burnt sienna, prussian blue and mineral violet. Raw sienna and burnt sienna are essential for me, but prussian blue and mineral violet are so beautiful colors though I haven't used for a while, that I think I want to use them more often. 

I may paint a barn owl again because this bird has great, beautiful wings and pretty face, which I hopefully could express in a better way with watercolors.

Loose Tulips

チューリップをなるべくloose paintingで描こうとした。ファブリアーノ水彩紙のトラディショナルホワイトを初めて使ってみるが、自然な白さの紙で、エキストラホワイト同様に絵の具の発色が美しい。絵の具と水をたっぷり筆に含ませるように意識してみた。使った色はカドミウムレッドオレンジ、キナクリドンレッド、オーレオリン、ローシェンナ、ウルトラマリンブルーライト、キナクリドンゴールド。

First time painting on Fabriano paper "Traditional White."  Just the same as Extra White paper, this paper produces great colors.  Furthermore, I felt brushstrokes on paper was smoother with more pigment and water in my brush. Colors used: Cadmium red orange, Quinacridone red, Aureolin, Raw sienna, Ultramarine blue light and Quinacridone gold.

Previously painted this without background, on Waterford paper. Colors are probably the same as the above.

最初の方に描いた背景なしのチューリップ。紙はウォーターフォードホワイト。使用している色は上と（たぶん）同じ。

Sparrow in the Snow

スズメの２回目。前とは違う色を使う。背景にローシェンナ、コバルトブルー、バーントシェンナ、ペリレンマルーン。紙の上で混色するようにしてみたがどうか…

My second sparrow painting used different colors; raw sienna, cobalt blue, burnt sienna and perylene maroon for the background. I tried to mix colors on paper, hopefully giving the background a feel of glowing... No matter if it succeeded or not, staying with a little bird (even if it’s a painting!) is just fun for me.

今年の干支はイノシシ。イノシシなど描いたことはない・・花を足したり色を付けたりして年賀状イラストに。

Java Sparrows

文鳥。いちばん好きな鳥だけれどちゃんと描くのは初めて。私の鳥が桜文鳥だが、この原種がハワイなどで野生に生きているということが不思議で素晴らしい。

紙はウォーターフォード　ナチュラルです。

These are my most favorite birds and my bird is just the one. The wild java sparrows were originated from Indonesia and now seen other places such as Hawaii and Malay Peninsula.  I sometimes feel it is amazing that my bird is a descendant of the species living in the wild. This painting was done on Waterford watercolor paper.

Fox in the Snow

10/23に追加掲載。こちらはファブリアーノ紙に描いていて、一つ下の絵より色数が少し多い。

雪の中に立つ凛々しく美しいキツネ。そんな写真を元に描いてみた。

下は先に描いた同じキツネだが、この紙（モンバルキャンソン）はやや光沢がありツルッとしているので絵の具がよく流れる。こんなテクスチャも面白い。

This was painted referring a photograph of a beautiful fox standing in snow. Wild animals are beautiful creatures just the way they are.  The below painted on a different watercolor paper, Montval Canson, shows interesting texture and I like it.

キツネのファーストトライ…今度はもっと絵の具と水をたっぷりと使おう。

水彩のいちばん難しいところは絵の具と水の割合、そして色を紙に置くタイミングだと思う。どのようにも描ける画材だけれど自分の理想を表現するのは難しい。

紙はファブリアーノで、こちらもコットン100％なのだがウォーターフォードとは違う描き味でまだ慣れない。このエキストラホワイトは紙肌が白くて美しく発色する。

My first fox painting...using more water and pigments would be nice...will do it again sometime!

Red-Flanked Bluetail

ルリビタキ。
自然に色が流れるようなゆるい水彩・・というのは、簡単そうに見えて実はむずかしい。

I have been experimenting with watercolors trying to have more wet-in-wet, loosely look on paper.  It's not easy, but I can't help trying when I see beautiful, spontaneous loose watercolor paintings.  Watercolor is a wonderful medium, it has so many ways to express painter's dream.

Chikadee

新しい紙、ホルベインのホワイトアイビスにざっくばらんに色々試している。イエロー・ブルー系にレッドを差し色にしてコガラを描いた。

It is fun and also a little bit hard to get used to a new paper. I have been experimenting with Holbein White Ibis and hopefully becoming learning how to handle it. Painting a bird is always pleasant experience for me. 

Grapefruits Cocktail

クリームメロンソーダの前に描いていた。ウィンザー＆ニュートン コットマンのスケッチブックで、ツルッとした紙肌が冷たい飲み物を描くのにちょうどよかった気がする。

Cream Melon Soda

涼し気なものをとクリームメロンソーダをミューズケナフに描く。この紙は落ち着いた白色の素朴な風合いがいい。（今は製造中止だそう）

”Limited Palette”という色の使い方を初めて知ったのだが、絵の具を少ない色数に決めて描くことで、混色に良い色の組み合わせを選ぶ。何色でもいいのだが、6、7色になることが多い。今回の色はオーレオリンイエロー、ビリジャン、フーカスグリーン、セルリアンブルー、カーマイン。

I have painted a cold drink for hot summer!  The paper used is Muse Kenaf, which is no longer produced...I liked its creamy tone and soft texture.  I usually paint with limited palette, mostly using six or seven colors.  Aureolin yellow, viridian, hooker's green, cerulean blue and carmine were my choices this time.

カワセミは難しい・・同じものを3枚描いたが、今これ以上納得できるように描けない気がしたのでこれでファイナル。

Baltimore Oriole

　
ボルチモアムクドリモドキという和名らしい。ウォーターフォードに描く。
動物は顔が可愛く描ければよしとします。

Swallow

チューブからの色をそのまま紙に置き、色を重ねていくよう意識して描いてみた。最初にスケッチ的に描いた下の絵は裏紙なので郵便番号枠が・・。

Tufted Titmouse

エボシガラ。冠羽のある鳥はなぜか描きたくなります。

Cardinal Female

カドミウムレッドオレンジとウルトラマリンブルーを混ぜると紫色ができる。クチバシと風切羽のあたりはその２色を使っている。
